چکیده

Maximum Voluntary Contraction(MVC) is frequently used in human machine muscle interfaces, especially the ones using Electromyography(EMG) and Acousticmyography(AMG). In some cases MVC alone is enough to adapt a system from one user to another, which could potentially create a simple system that any user could instantly use with minimal training and calibration. This research work evaluates the usefulness of automating circumference measurement for estimating MVC thereby reducing the need for training and calibration. A preliminary implementation of a circumference measuring armband is presented to demonstrate the feasibility and performance of this technology.

Does Muscle Fatigue Alter EEG Bands of Brain Hemispheres?

Background: Muscle fatigue has been known to influence brain activity, but very little is known about how cortical centers respond to muscle fatigue. Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of muscle contraction and fatigue induced by two different percents of maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) on Electroencephalography (EEG) signals.Material and Methods: In t...

EMG-based Fatigue Assessment During Endurance Testing With Different VT Protocols

BACKGROUND: Muscle fatigue can be defined as the failure of a muscle to maintain a reasonably expected force output. The multivariate approach to fatigue assessment is used because the multiple (EMG) feature provides more information than anyone. OBJECTIVE: This study presents a method of assessing muscle fatigue during endurance testing at 50% maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) using electro...

Hip Muscle Activity during Isometric Contraction of Hip Abduction

[Purpose] This study aimed to determine the effect of varying hip flexion angle on hip muscle activity during isometric contraction in abduction. [Subjects] Twenty-seven healthy men (mean age=21.5 years, SD=1.2) participated in this study. [Methods] Surface electromyography (EMG) was recorded of the upper portion of the gluteus maximus (UGM), lower portion of the gluteus maximus (LGM), tensor f...

Relationship between force and electromyographic activity during rapid isometric contraction in power grip.

Force response and surface electromyographic (EMG) activity of extrinsic extensors and flexors of the hand were measured under 6 target force conditions during rapid pulse isometric contractions (power grip) targeted using an oscilloscope display of exerted and target forces. For target forces ranging from 16.7% to 50% of maximum voluntary contraction (MVC), the rate of force rise increased wit...

Muscle activation during low-intensity muscle contractions with varying levels of external limb compression.

The purpose was to investigate muscle activation during low- intensity muscle contractions with various levels of external limb compression to reduce muscle perfusion/outflow. A series of unilateral elbow flexion muscle contractions (30 repetitive contractions followed by 3 sets x 15 contractions) was performed at 20% of 1RM with varying levels of external compression (0 (without compression), ...
